Die fortlaufende digitale Erfassung und Repräsentation unserer Umwelt schafft eine immer grössere Menge an einzelnen Informations- und Bildbausteinen, die mittlerweile frei zugänglich und prozessierbar sind. Waren es früher primär analoge Gestaltungsmaterialien, mit deren Hilfe Skizzen, Collagen, Bilder und Skulpturen geschaffen wurden, so haben wir es heute mit einem weit grösseren Fundus an material-ungebundenen Gestaltungsbausteinen zu tun, die mit digitalen Bildverfahren beliebig isoliert, verformt, texturiert und neu zueinander gestellt werden können. Die vorliegende Kursarbeit ist in diesem Kontext zu verstehen. Nach einer Einführung in die 3D-Grafiksoftware Cinema 4D wurden die Studierenden gebeten, eine Sammlung von verschiedenen, editierbaren 3D-Modellen zusammenzustellen, die es aus frei zugänglichen, digitalen 3D-Bibliotheken zu entnehmen galt. Sämtliche 3D-Modelle wurden in der Folge auf eine mögliche Bearbeitbarkeit geprüft und soweit als möglich in ihre einzelnen Geometrie- und Texturbestandteile zerlegt. In einem abschliessenden Schritt galt es, eine Auswahl herausgelöster Komponenten neu miteinander zu arrangieren und diese zu frei erfundenen und sureal anmutenden 3D-Assemblagen zusammenzufügen. Nebst der Vermittlung der 3D-Grafik, im Beispiel der Software von Cinema 4D, galt es experimentelle Kompositionstechniken zu fördern, beruhend auf dem freien Arrangement und Sampling von neueren verfügbaren, digitalen Gestaltungsbausteinen.
