Die vorliegende Kursarbeit nahm sich thematisch der traditionellen Bildgattung wie dem Architektur-Capriccio an, dies jedoch unter Einbezug neuerer, digitaler Bildverfahren und der Verwendung von material-ungebundenen Gestaltungsbausteinen (3D-Komponenten), die beliebig isoliert, verformt, texturiert und neu zueinander gestellt werden können. Nach einer Einführung in die 3D-Grafiksoftware Cinema 4D wurden die Studierenden gebeten, eine Sammlung von verschiedenen, editierbaren 3D-Modellen zusammenzustellen, die es aus frei zugänglichen, digitalen 3D-Bibliotheken zu entnehmen galt – so zum Beispiel 3D-Modelle von unterschiedlichen Alltagsgegenständen, technischen Apparaturen, wie auch von einzelnen architektonischen Bauteilen. Es galt in der Folge, eine Auswahl einzelner 3D-Komponenten neu miteinander zu arrangieren und diese zu frei erfundenen und architektonisch anmutenden Bildfiguren (Architektur Capriccio) zusammenzufügen: in einer ersten Phase als monolithische, architektonische und texturierte Körper auszubilden (Monoliths) und abschliessend freiere und mehr zusammengefügte Strukturen zu erschaffen (Composites). Nebst der Vermittlung der 3D-Grafik, im Beispiel der Software von Cinema 4D, galt es experimentelle Kompositionstechniken zu fördern, beruhend auf dem freien Arrangement von neueren verfügbaren, digitalen Gestaltungsbausteinen.
